Bacterial pathways for hexuronate catabolism through keto-deoxy-gluconate, KDG. The pathways for d-galacturonate and d-glucuronate have the enzymes UxaC, KdgK and KdgA in common. The 4,5 unsaturated mono-uronate is the product of lyases acting on polygalacturonate, and DEHU (4-deoxy-l-erythro-5-hexoseulose uronate) is the product of lyases acting on alginate, a copolymer of two uronates, d-mannuronate and l-guluronate
