Experimental setup of the double continuous cultivation of the TMEs. Schematic overview of the production of tailor-made enzymes (TMEs) using a double continuous fermentation. In the first bioreactor Schwanniomyces occidentalis is continuously grown on YPD medium. In the second bioreactor Trichoderma harzianum is fed with living S. occidentalis. In this way T. harzianum will start producing TMEs against S. occidentalis. At the end of the cultivation, the T. harzianum broth is harvested and the supernatant separated from the biomass. This supernatant is used as the TME cocktail in further experiments
