Formation of levulinyl-CoA (LA-CoA) from sodium levulinate, HS-CoA, and ATP in extracts of E. coli JM109 carrying the lvaE2 gene (pCo7-387CoA-L) at 30 °C. HPLC analyses were performed using samples of the reaction mixture taken at 0, 15, 30, 60, and 120 min and 20 h after the addition of approximately 300 μL of crude cell extract (0.4 μg mL−1) into a total of 1500 mL reaction mixture. Up and down arrows indicate increasing and decreasing contents of LA-CoA and HS-CoA, respectively. Retention times of authentic HS-CoA and LA-CoA peaks were 4.3 min and 13.6 min, respectively
