Nucleo-cytoplasmic redistribution of the HOG1::GFP fusion protein after a salt stress (a) and after illumination of the cells (b). The salt stress (a) was applied by addition of 0.4 M NaCl (final concentration) to the cell suspension. In b the results are shown of exposure of the cell suspension to blue light (200 μE incident intensity, 450 nm LED light). Samples were taken 0, 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 60 min after initiation of the experiment. White bars represent the yeast strain with the C1 histidine kinase fusion protein, and grey bars represent the yeast strain with the native Sln1 histidine kinase. Error bars represent the standard deviation calculated from three independent experiments
