Application of displacement maps. Each polygonal object (e.g. a plane) consists of three-dimensional points (vertices) that are connected with lines (edges) (a). Each pixel is assigned a relative height value based on their grey-scale values; black is assigned the lowest value of 0 and white the highest value of 1. (b).
